These women “wow” L’OREAL Paris

L’OREAL Paris started the “Women of Worth” award

‘Tis the month for giving, and L’OREAL Paris is giving away $35,000 to a woman they believe deserves it. Now this is not gifted to a woman who loves L’OREAL’s cosmetics (although, who doesn’t?), but to a woman who goes above and beyond and is really “a woman of worth”.

What is “Women of Worth”?

L’OREAl Paris’ “Women of Worth” philanthropy project aims to honor women in the United States that are selflessly helping their community. Women who created non-profits, and volunteer their time to help those in need. L’OREAL aims to recognize those that are helping others to the best of their ability, but may not get the appreciation they deserve.

How does it work?

Nominees were able to be submitted by either themselves or those who feel they deserve it. After, the top ten were chosen by a panel of judges in the media and business industries.

The nominees were judged on four different aspects: Impact, Community Needs and Solutions, Passion, and Innovation.

Those top 10 honorees will receive: “a $10,000 donation on behalf of each Honoree to a charitable organization of her choice…, and an all-expense paid trip to New York City…to be recognized at an Awards event.ecognized at a national conference held by L’OREAL.” These nominees will also now be included in volunteer panels, and conferences that L’OREAL hosts.

One honoree will then be chosen (via an online voting process) as the “2017 Woman of Worth”. She will receive an extra $25,000 toward the organization of their choice.

Shandra Woworuntu

Founder of Mentari, an organization that helps survivors of human trafficking.

SreyRam Kuy

Partner in Dog Tag Bakery, which is a program that helps veterans get an education at Georgetown University while also getting business experience while working for the Dog Tag Bakery.

Lulu Cerone

Founder of LemonAID Warriors, an organization that helps children get involved in important causes that they care about.


These are just three of the ten amazing women who are being recognized for the difference that they are making in our country. For such a prestigious brand like L’OREAL Paris to give these women the spotlight and celebrity-treatment they deserve is truly remarkable. In addition, these women get a donation to pay it forward. I hope other large brands follow suit!

You can vote on this website throughout November, and the winner will be announced in December.

Cold Weather Beauty Prep: Skincare

My weather app is informing me that it is currently 47 degrees Fahrenheit. In other words, it’s cold. The funny thing is that in Ithaca, this isn’t even the worst of it. Although, nothing could compare to the first time I saw negative numbers in the weather app.

Cold weather in upstate New York means I must trade my jean jacket for a puffy, insulated coat. I need to put away my favorite sneakers, and take out the shoes that are equipped for a snowy trek. Lastly (and the worst of all), I must prepare for the dry, tight feeling in my skin

Our skin is the largest external organ in our body, and so we need to take care of it. I am going to share with you some tips, and product recommendations that you can use to take extra care of your skin during this part of the year!

Fenty Beauty Review: Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick and Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer

A little over a week ago, I wrote about my initial impressions of Rihanna’s newest venture: Fenty Beauty. After hours of stalking, I decided on two products to start with: the Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Confetti and the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer.


I really enjoy the look of the packaging on both products, they seem very luxurious and minimalistic at the same time.

“Beauty for All”: Rihanna Launches Revolutionary Cosmetics Line

Global superstar, Rihanna, is trading the music studio for a makeup lab. Last year, Rihanna teased the release of her makeup line over her social media accounts. A little over a year later, Fenty Beauty was released.

“Beauty for All”, is Fenty Beauty’s tagline, and that is nothing short of the truth. The most impressive of the 16 products is the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, which retails for $34. On, the foundation is described as “the ultimate photo filter” but that is not the reason it is receiving such high praises. The foundation boasts a line of 40 different shades, ensuring that everyone is able to find a perfect match. The beauty industry has long been accused of not being inclusive to all skin tones, especially deeper ones. For comparison’s sake, we could look at Kat Von D’s Lock It Foundation ($35). This foundation has 31 shades, which is only 9 less than the Fenty foundation. However, it is the types of shades that makes a difference. Rihanna commented on the trend that there tends to be more middle-ground shades, and not as many shades that are VERY light or VERY dark. Rihanna is looking to change that, stating “You want people to appreciate the product, and not feel like ‘oh that’s cute, but it only looks good on her’”.
